I love this time of year! I now live in Southwest Florida and do miss the change of seasons, and the excitement that comes with autumn, and the anticipation of entering into a new season.
I know a lot of people who dread fall because the new season tends to be cold.
I don’t necessarily like the cold weather, which is why we relocated to a warmer climate, but I do enjoy hunkering down by the fire and watching a classic movie. What I also like about fall is the approaching holiday season.
I love the excitement that is in the air, the music, the decorations, and the time with family and friends.
Today is a day that our nation began a tradition of acknowledging all of the blessings that God bestowed on us and His faithfulness to our citizens.
It is easy to get caught up in the stress of preparing large meals, but taking time to focus on its original intent helps me keep things in perspective and allows me to humbly acknowledge and thank my creator.
8 Things I am Thankful For Today
1. My Health
Anyone who has had about with an illness or disease understands the importance of not taking good health for granted.
I am thankful every day for my health and know my life would be drastically different without it.
People sometimes ask me why I exercise or why I choose to take the steps with the option of an elevator, and my reply is, “Because I can, and a lot of people only wish for the physical strength to do the same.” Why would I not take advantage of the freedom that comes with having good health?
2. My Family
God has blessed my husband and I with an amazing family, and I am so grateful for their love and support.
My children are now grown, and I am enjoying the fruit of all of my parenting labor.
God filled in the gaps for the many times I missed the parenting mark, and they have turned out to be awesome adults that give back to society.
We have an amazing new grandson who has allowed us the opportunity to re-learn how to care for an infant and the joy of rediscovering the blessings that come with small children. I cannot wait for Christmas this year!
3. My Home
I don’t think a night goes by that I don’t thank God for a comfortable bed, clean sheets, a soft pillow, and a warm blanket.
I often think of those people who have no home, much less a comfortable bed. My home is my refuge and I am very grateful for the comfort it provides.
4. My Friends
I have been blessed to have friendships that have sustained for decades.
There are no better friends than those that you share life with and those that you can count on in times of crisis. I have many such friends and am very grateful.
5. My Income
I thank God for His sustaining power through transitions in our life financially and am always amazed at how He meets all of our needs and financial commitments.
I am grateful that I have a car and money to put gas in the tank because I know that is a major struggle for many people. Just having a paycheck is such an awesome blessing!
6. My Church Family
I have been fortunate to be part of an amazing church with people who love God and are committed to doing the work of the ministry.
My church family has been there for me in times of trouble and has helped me develop as a Christian on a personal level.
My dearest friends have held my hand through times of transition and have cheered me on to the things God has for me.
7. My Country
I thank my God every day for this amazing country that we live in where I can talk about God, worship God, and have the freedom and liberties to be who I am.
I’m thankful for our founding fathers, who were wise enough to use God’s word as a foundation for the early development of this nation. I
am thankful that I live in a safe community, in a safe city, in a country where I do not fear some of the things that happen in other nations.
8. This Day
I’m grateful that we get to stop work for today and laugh while we prepare the feast and then sit and enjoy a fantastic meal.
I love turkey and all the trimmings and am thankful for whoever first came up with that menu!
